Exeter has a total of 8 Railway Stations, the main ones being Exeter St David's and Exeter Central. Exeter St David's is the busiest and has the most facilities, e.g. full information, ticketing office, cafes etc. These 2 stations will be your main departure or arrival points, depending on where you are arriving from or going to.
The other six stations are minor stations on the main railway routes out of the city. Not all trains stop at all stations, and the underlined links will take you to timetables for these stations. On the Exeter Central to London Waterloo line there is Pinhoe Station. On the St Davids to the South West line there is Exeter St Thomas, and on the Exeter Central to Exmouth line there is St James Park, Polsloe Bridge Digby Sowton and Topsham. See links below for today's arrivals and departures from the above stations.
However, of the above, only a few are within a reasonable walk of Exeter City Centre, being St Thomas, (10-15 minutes with some uphill), St James Park (10 minutes) and Polsloe Bridge (15-20 mins with some uphill). Pinhoe, Digby Sowton and Topsham are outside the main central area of Exeter but may prove to be a convenient point to alight or board the train.
The smaller stations do not have manned ticket offices, so unless you already have a return ticket for your journey, you need to know the rules. You may end up paying the full price fare with no cheap day offers. See http://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/SWTrains/Ticketsandprices/Penalty+fares.htm
Live departures from the above or any other UK station can be found at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/ldb/?livedepartures.asp
